COMPARISON OF TWO BILAMINAR TECHNIQUES FOR ROOT COVERAGE: A RAMDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL

Objectives: A number of studies have been evaluate various bilaminar coronal sliding flap techniques for the treatment of Class I and II recessions Miller. However, studies report a wide variation in the total percentage of root coverage.
Is important to evaluate new surgical techniques for covering gingival recessions class I and II of Miller that can increase the percentage of the total root coverage because bilaminar technical studies reported an overall percentage of root coverage ranging in a range of 40 to 90% with a mean of 65%.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate two bilaminars flap techniques for covering gingival recession. The two techniques used were positioned coronal partial thickness flap described by de Sanctis and Zucchelli, and technical bilaminar posiconado coronal thick mucous flap described by Grenwell; since the latter enables more coronal Driveable flap and further relaxation and passivity thereof.
The main objetive of study was evaluated the total percentage of root coverage of two bilaminar techniques in gingival recession class I and II of Miller in patients attending at the dental clinics of Universidad El Bosque.
Methods: We conducted a randomized controlled clinical trial in 29 patients with gingival recession class I and II of Miller.; who previously signed an informed consent, which contributed 53 recessions; randomization was performed at each of the bilaminar techniques (coronal thick mucous flap shifted or displaced flap coronal partial thickness).
For the descriptive analysis means, standard deviations and proportions were calculated.
Due to the lost data submitted an allegation was made by regression analysis; further proof of independence of Chi square was conducted to find associations between the variables and complete root coverage treatment performed.
Results: No statistically significant differences were observed in the percentage of full and partial root coverage between two bilaminar coronal positioned flap procedures (partial thickness and mucous thicknes flap).
With both surgical techniques a cover of gingival recession was observed as well as a decrease in the width of keratinized tissue after the first month of the precedure made and maintained over time.
Conclusions: We could predict the percentage of root coverage with the assessment made at three months.
