THE dmf INDEX UNDER THE ICDAS II CRITERIA AND DETECTION OF PATTERNS ASSOCIATED WITH CARIES IN A SCHOOL POPULATION: VALIDATION OF THE VISMINEKDD TOOL.
Objectives: To determine and validate the VISMINEKDD tool with patterns associated with the caries diagnosis in school population of the Genoy village and Pasto City institutions.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study. Population: two educational institutions took part, a public one from the Genoy village and a private one form the City of Pasto. The age range included in the study was between the 4 to 6 years of age, belonging to the kindergarten, transition and pre-school levels with a total study population of 120 children. The systemically compromised and difficult to handle children were excluded. For the ethical criteria the free approval of the parents was requested by means of the informed consent and Ethics Committee endorsement.
The dmft index was measured under the ICDAS II criteria by means of the use of the odontogram format. A survey was carried out for the social demographic characterization on the parents and children´s diet was assessed. With the collected information the following was done: Date analysis, data coupling, data mining analysis, rules generation, analysis and discovery of knowledge for the validation of the VISMINEKDD tool.
Results: Data cleaning and univariate analysis with the algorithm C5.0 was carried out. The dmft index for the public institution was moderate (6-10), a high caries history with ICDAS II code 3. For the private institution the dmft index was low (0-5), a moderate caries experience and the prevailing of ICDAS II code 3.
Conclusions: There is a need to implement oral health promotion and prevention actions. The VISMINEKDD tool allowed the data coupling and rule application avoiding bias and corrupted data hence its validation.
