The Acute Hemagglutination and Skin Sensitization studies on nano-hydroxyapitite-zirconia ceramics

Objectives: To evaluate its biological safety , the nano-hydroxyapitite-zirconia ceramics were tested by the acute hemagglutination and skin sensitization examination. Methods: There are 4 groups according to the component ratio of hydroxyapitite and zirconia in the nano-hydroxyapitite-zirconia ceramics. According to ISO/TR 7405-84 (E), the acute hemagglutination assay was done. The skin sensitization test was divided to initial induction, initial challenge, observations phases. Results: The nano-hydroxyapitite-zirconia ceramics showed no hemagglutination and skin sensitization reaction. Conclusions: According to the in vitro biological safety evaluation tests, the nano-hydroxyapitite-zirconia ceramics were proved to be used as implant materials in the future ,though its biocompatibility was still needed to be demonstrated via in vivo tests.
