Methods: During May,2006 to May 2007 ,The clinical study was carried out on 43 cases of deep venous malformation involving different areas. the patients were from the departments of oral maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics etc. Diode laser (980nm)irradiation was delivered after surgical elevation of the flaps .and then the venous malformation was resected completely or partially ,the power density was 150~220W/cm2,and the energy density was 200~300J/cm2 , The relationship of laser dosage and therapeutic effect and possible surrounding tissue thermal damages were investigated. No recurrence appeared .
Results: All cases surveyed a follow-up of 1~12months.Post therapeutic clinical and imaging examinations were taken to compare the findings before and after treatment. There are 40 cases with complete regression (93.02 %), 3 cases with partial regression (6.98%). No recurrence appeared .
Conclusions:the 980nm diode laser have the best absorbion of the oxyhemoglobin. The high power can bring the stable effect of coagulation and hemostasis, So it is fit for laser therapy of different areas venous malformations. after surgical elevation of the flaps.
