A clinical study of autotransplantation of third molar

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical and X-ray outcome of 32 autotransplanted third molars(ATTM).

Methods: 29 patients (5 males,24 females) ,age 15~39 years average age 22.8), who underwent immediately autotransplantation with 32 third molars between 1998 and 2005. Followed-up interval was from 1.5 to 2 years The outcome was measured by clinical and X-ray examination. Results: This study shows the wound healing in ATTM. All autotransplanted teeth had the same function as the controls . Development of root after operation was observed in 2 cases. Root or alveolar bone resorption of 4 teeth was arrested after canal treatment.

Conclusion: ATTM is a reliable method with a good prognosis for repairing the defective area of first or second molars that were pulled out. It is necessary for the autotransplanted teeth to observe timely
