Comparison of Biocompatibility of Nanophase Hydroxyapatite and Calcium Deficient Hydroxyapatite

Objectives: To compare the cellular biocompatibility of nanophase hydroxyapatite(HA) and calcium deficient hydroxyapatite(CDHA) which were both synthesized by chemical wet method and of similar nano-crystal size. Methods: Primary cultured osteoblasts were used to evaluate the cellular biocompatibility of the interests. MTT method was used to measure the proliferation of osteoblasts on the third day, ALP test was carried out on the fifth day, SEM was used to examine the morphology of osteoblasts on the third day. Results: The results indicated that nanophase CDHA surface had more osteoblasts, which also spread better than cells on HA group, The ALP level of CDHA was also higher than the latter. Conclusion: Surface of nanophase CDHA was more suitable for osteoblasts growth than nanophase HA, at the same time it was helpful for ALP synthesis.
