Mechanical properties of silicone elastomers for maxillofacial prosthesis

objective: To measure the tear strength, tensile strength , the property change percent of elongation at break and Shore A hardness of two kind of silicone elastomers(silicone A,silicone B) and evaluate their mechanical properties. Methods: Mechanical properties of silicone A,silicone B and MDX4-4210 were measured under the same conditions.Data were analyzed by t test. Results: The tear strength of silicone B was stronger than those of silicone A and MDX4-4210 (P< 0.05).The tensile strength and the property change percent of elongation at break of MDX4-4210 were stronger than those of silicone A and silicone B (P< 0.05). The Shore A hardness of silicone B was smaller than that of MDX4-4210.Conclusion: Silicone A and B can basically be used as the prosthetic materials for facial soft tissue defect. While there still is something must be done to advance their integrated Performance .
