Comparison of Caries Removal Using Carisolv and Rotary Instrument

Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to compare the efficacy of chemo-mechanical caries removal (Carisolv) to the rotary instrument in vitro.

Methods: Eight freshly extracted teeth with dentin caries were sectioned through the caries lesion in the mesiodistal longitudinal plane. Half of each lesion was prepared using the Carisolve chemo-mechanical method and the other half using rotary instrument. Then an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer was used to analyze the Ca/P mol ratio of eight teeth.

Results: There was no significant difference between Ca/P mol ratio in the bottom of cavity treated with two methods.

Conclusions: The Carisolve method was as effectively as the rotary instrument in removing caries.
