Double-flared technique in endodontic treatment of curved root canals

Aim:To assess the application of double-flared technique in conjunction with hand ProTaper in endodontic treatment of curved root canals. Methods: 103 teeth of 103 patients included in the study were divided into two groups randomly. 53 teeth were instrumented by double-flared technique with hand ProTaper and stainless steel K-files in the test. The crown 2/3 of the root canals was instrumented with hand ProTaper .Then the working length was measured and the apical 1/3 of the root canals were instrumented by step ¨Cback technique with stainless steel K-files. In the control ,50 teeth were instrumented by step ¨Cback technique with stainless steel K-files . All teeth were obturated with lateral condensation method. The efficiency of preparation and obturation was analyzed with digital radiographs before, during and after operation. Results:The data of radiographical results of the 103 teeth after obturation and the acute reaction rate of 103 patients were analyzed by X2 test.Satisfying radiographical results were obtained in the test. The satisfying rate was 88.68%, which was significantly higher than 64% in the control(P<0. 01).The acute reaction rate was 1.89%,which was significantly lower than 14% in the control(P<0.01). Conclusion: Double-flared technique in conjunction with hand ProTaper plays a decisive role and efficiently enhanced the successful rate in endodontic treatment of curved root canals .
