Objective:To investigate the missing condition of permanent teeth among the middle and old age people in Fujian province and to provide a scientific basis for instituting schedule of oral health prevention. Methods:The methods of poly-stage, layering, isasteric and randomize sampling were used in the investigation. 36 villages from 6 cities were examined in the epidemiological investigation. From every village, the examiners checked up the missing condition of permanent teeth of 40 people randomly (20 from 35 to 44-year-old, the other 20 from 65 to 74-year-old). Results:The condition of dentition in middle-aged were more better than the elder in Fujian. The rate of edentulous jaw, dentition defect and mean of missing teeth in were 0%, 46.94% and 1.19 in middle-aged group, which were lower than those in elder (16.81%, 95.42%, 10.87). In middle-aged, mean of missing teeth and the rate of dentition defect were higher in urban than in suburb. The rate of complete dentition in urban was lower than that in suburb. The difference between male and female had no statistical significance. In the elder, the rate of edentulous jaw and mean of missing teeth were higher in urban than that in suburb. There was no statistical significant difference in the rate of complete dentition, dentition defect and mean of the missing teeth between urban and suburb. The rate of edentulous jaw and the mean of missing teeth of old females were higher than that of old males. There was no statistical difference in the rate of complete teeth and dentition defect between old males and females. Conclusion:It is necessary to propagate oral health knowledge, especially in the elder. Only this way could we avoid dentition defect and functional disturbance.
