Bleomycin A5 Hydrochloride on Venous Malformation through Ultrasound-guided Treatment

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Bleomycin A5 hydrochloride on the venous malformation in the cervical-facial region through ultrasound-guided treatment. Methods: Seventy-five patients suffered from venous malformation, including 54 patients in facial region, 8 patients in submental region, 10 patients in submandible region, and 3 patients in cervical region, were treated by Bleomycin A5 hydrochloride through the ultrasound-guided treatment. The maximal lesion was 32mm×39mm, and the minimal one was 6mm×9mm. The curative effect and the complication were measured and recorded. Results: Each patient received treatment for 1.64 times averagely. Among them, 42 patients received treatment for once, 21 patients for twice, 9 patients for three times, and 3 patients for four times. The results were evaluated according to criteria of therapeutical effect. Finally 63 patients were cured (84%), 10 patients were basically cured (13.33%), 2 patients were improved (2.67%). The cure and basically cure rate was 97.33%. The effective rate was 100%. 71 patients (94.67%) had swelled for several days and 2 patients (2.67%) occurred temporary dizziness after treatment. And there was no other complications recorded. The typical case was a 14 year-old boy who suffered venous malformation in the parotideomasseteric region. The lesion was 37.8mm×20.3mm at the first visit. And it disappeared after ultrasound-guided treatment by injection of Bleomycin A5 hydrochloride for three times. Conclusions: Bleomycin A5 hydrochloride has a good effect on the venous malformation in the cervical-facial region through ultrasound-guided treatment.
