Oral Disease Survey Status among Chinese Conscripts at 2006

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe oral diseases prevalence profile, to analyze epidemic factors, and to assess the status of dental service among the military personnel in Tibet of China. Methods: This study was conducted using stratified, cluster sampling amang the army. Data of 730 military personnel were collected by self-adminiered structured questionnaires and clinical exami-nations (WHO creteria). Relevant information was analyzed with software such as Foxpro 6.0 and SPSS 11.5. Result: The results showed that the prevalence rate of dental caries, periodontal disease, the third impacted molar, pericoronitis, cheilitis, oral ulcer and tooth trauma among Tibet conscripts, respectively, is 24.6%, 81.8%, 32.51%, 19.2%, 74.2%, 24.9%, 2.1%. Conclusions: The survy found that prevalence rate of dental disease ,especially the caries and periodontal disease, was very high. These results was also shown clearly that the need for oral health care,e in active duty Chinese PLA military personnel is very frequent, and it seems to be very hard task for oral health care. Therefor the medical condition of oral health care needs to be improved, and effective oral health promotion strategies need to be implemented to improve the oral health of military personel in Tibet of China.
