A clininal study of periocline on periodontitis with telescopic denture

Objectives: To evaluate clinical effect of subgingivally administering the periocline as the auxiliary treatment of recurrent chronic periodontitis with telescopic denture. Methods: A randomized,single-blinded,self-control study was designed. 8 patients, 34 teeth were divided into two groups.Following initial periodontal therapy, periocline was administered into the periodontal pocket of test sides, the control sides had no drug. For both groups, the clinical indices (including plaque index,PLI, gingival index,GI , bleeding on probing,BOP, probing depth,PD) and the response to ointments were evaluated at baseline week 1,week 4 and week 8. For the PLI, GI , BOP,the Wilcoxon matched pairs signed-ranks test was performed. Differences within the groups were determined using the t-test for all the indices. Results: At the baseline, there was no significant difference in the indices between the two groups(P>0.05). At 1 week after the treatment , both groups showed significant improvement in their examined indices(P<0.01).At 1 week the PLI was significantly lower in the experimental group than that in the control group. At 1 week after the treatment, the GI and BOP was not significantly different between the two groups(P>0.05);but there was difference after the treatment 4 weeks and 8 weeks(P<0.05). At 1 week after the treatment,PD was different between the two groups(P<0.05)while 4 weeks and 8 weeks were significant different between the two groups(P<0.01). Conclusions: Administration of the local drug delivery system of periocline oinment as the auxiliary treatment of chronic periodontitis with telescopic denture can get good clinical results.
