Appliancation of horizontally impacted canine with artificial fulcrum
Objectives: The treatment of horizontal impacted teeth in orthodontics clinic is difficult. If we use the traditional surgical method to open window followed by direct traction, it may cause root resorption of the neighbour teeth. Thus this kind of impacted tooth was considered incurable and was extracted or just put aside. With the introduce of artificial fulcrum designed by ourselves, the impacted teeth can move freely into the predesigned resonable position without roots resorption of the neighbor teeth. Methods:5 patients with impacted teeth were selected. They were treated with straight wine appliance. After opening surgical window, length of steel wire (artificial fulcrum) was placed in crown or CRE of the impacted teeth then the traction of the crown of the teeth was applied. During the treatment, panoramic photo was used to evaluate the movement of the teeth and roots resorption condition. Results: lmpacted teeth of the 5 patients were treated to normal position, and there were no root resorption of the neighbor teeth. Conclusions: The application of artificial fulcrum in the treatment of complex impacted teeth was an innovation. It was an active innovation which had a promising application future.
