Vitapex apexification in the young permanent incisors with root resorption

Objectives: To observe the effect of vitapx paste (Neo Dental International, Inc. Japan) on apexification of young traumatized permanent incisors with extensive root resorption. Methods: A 7 1/2-year-old girl with traumatic extrusion of the maxillary right literal incisor, central incisor, left literal incisor and central incisor was referred to our clinic three months after trauma. The mobility of the teeth was degree II with sinus tract. Radiography showed the immature permanent teeth had apical periodontitis and extensive external or internal root absorption.Surgical repositioning of the teeth was done one month before she came. After opening the access to the root canals, completing removal of the pulp and canal preparation, the Vitapex paste apexification procedure was successfully performed. The paste was renewed 2 weeks later. Then, it was renewed every 4 weeks for 5 months and then renewed after 3 months. Clinical and radiographic reviews were evaluated at every recall. Results: During the 2-year recall, radiography showed the formation of the apical closure, resolution of the periapical inflammation and the reduction of the root absorption. Clinical symptoms were resolved in all teeth. Conclusions: Vitapex apexification is an effective method in keeping the immature permanent teeth with extensive root resorption due to trauma.
