Development of a 3-Dimensional CT dignostic system for dental cast

Objectives: To develop a computer assisted CT diagnostic system for 3D dental cast measurement and study its reliability. Methods: By using helical CT to scan a dental stone cast and capture a series digital sliced radiographs. The program which is developed by Visual C++ 6.0 language and run under the Windows surroundings can rebuild the 3D images and measure the coordinate of the dental cast. Results: 20 dental casts were scanned and measured to test the reliability of the system ,the result showed that there were no significant difference between 3D CT scanning and manual(P>0.05). Conclusions: The system is a valuable computer assisted system for clinical diagnosis and treatment of malocclusion.
