Bond properties of self-made veneer porcelains and dental zirconia ceramics

Objectives: To evaluate the bond properties of two self-made veneer porcelains (G-1, G-2) and dental Zirconia framework material. Nephelina, Anorthoclase and Wollastonite crystals would be separated out from veneer porcelain G-1 after sintering, while in G-2, a spot of Zirconia was added on the basis of G-1. Methods: Veneer porcelains G-1and G-2 were sintered apart under respective procedures on the surface of two groups of ten pre-sintered Zirconia ceramic plates that were dealt with sandblasting. Scanning electric microscope (SEM), energy distribution spectrum (EDS) and thermal shock test were applied to evaluate the bond properties of such interfaces. Shear bond strength of veneer porcelains-Zirconia interfaces were measured, and results were treated by ANOVA method. Results: The shear bond strength of Zirconia-veneer porcelain G-1 and G-2 were 30.7624±3.8075 and 36.2186±5.7679 MPa, there is no statistic difference existed between each group (P<0.01). There was no crack in both groups during thermal shock test. Smooth interfaces were obtained in two veneer porcelains sintered on the Zirconia framework material, furthermore, chemical combination between thus two laminate were confirmed by means of EDS. Conclusion: Satisfying results were obtained in both G-1 and G-2 veneer porcelains. Further clinical research could be carried out on G-1 and G-2 and Zirconia ceramic framework under conditioning of sandblasting.
