Nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument for primary tooth root canal therapy
The pediatric patients are so young and uncooperate that they usually can not be patient during treatment. It is a big problem for us to solve that how we cut down the cost of time in root canal therapy of primary tooth. Objectives: To compare the time-costs of nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument and hand-file root canal preparation by hand. Compare the time-costs of root canal filling after different preparations and root canal therapy of primary tooth. Methods: We chose 80 primary molars of 6-8 years old outpatients to take the root canal therapy, which had no periapical diseases. Divided into 2 groups randomly, 40 patients were prepared by using the nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument and the other 40 patients were prepared by hand files. Then we recorded the costs of time. Use the VITAPEX paste to fill the root canals after the prepartion and record the costs of timem. Results: Hand files preparation costed 10-15 minutes, with the average time of 11.5 minutes. Root-filling costed 5-7minutes,with the average time of 5.5 minutes. Preparation using the nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument costed 1.5-2.5 minutes, with the average time of 2 minutes. Root-filling costed 2-3 minute, with the average time of 2.5 minutes. Conclusions: Using the nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument to prepare the root canal would cut the time cost down 5-6 times compared with the regular hand files preparation; root-filling time would be about 2 times shorter also. Using the nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument to prepare the root canal can cut down the time cost in clinical root canal therapy in primary teeth. It could cut down the time cost from average 13.5 minutes to only 4.5 minutes. Usage of the nickel-titanium auto-rotary instrument was a good choice to the pediatric patients who could hardly bear the long-time treatment.
