Comparison of compomer restoration methods of the wedge shaped defect
Objectives: To compare the therapeutic effect of the two methods to restore the wedge shaped defect of the teeth. The two methods are the improved method and the traditional one. Methods: 158 teeth with wedge-shaped defect were divided into two groups: 88 were restored by improved method. The surface of wedge shaped defect was grinded first, and then fresh tooth tissue was exposed, enamel was acid etched for 30 seconds, compomer was restored and occlusal relation was adjusted. At the same time, 70 teeth were treated as the traditional method of the compomer. Further consultation was advanced in 12 months. Three aspects were compared from the retention effect, stain of the edge and defect of the prosthesis surface between the groups. Results: The improved group (whose satisfied rate was 96.6%, 96.5% and 96.5%) was better than the traditional group (which was 92.9%, 92.3% and 92.3%). The difference of the retention effect between the two groups was significant. Also there were significant differences between the two groups in stain of the edge and defect of the prosthesis surface. Conclusions: Improved method raised the successful rate of the Dyract compomer restoration. It could greatly improve the adhesion intensity and the marginal integrity, reduce the microleakage, weaken the accumulation of occlusal force irritation to the prosthesis.
