Correcting anterior individual crossbite using PFM crowns with porcelain veneer

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical effect of porcelain fused to metal crown with labial porcelain veneer to correct anterior severe individual crossbite. Methods: 27 cases with 38 anterior teeth of crossbite were corrected with PFM crown with back porcelain veneer. The PFM crown was specially designed and fabricated to meet clinical requirement.The patients were recalled after 1 to 3 years of restoration. The periodontal condition was examined. The esthetics and satisfaction of patients is evaluated. Results: No obvious inflammation of gingival was observed during further consultation. All restoration stays firmly with no collapse and crack of porcelain occurred. The esthetic of anterior teeth is improved and no feeling of unwell is complained. Conclusion: For the patients of upper anterior individual crossbite unwilling to choose recommended orthodontic treatment, PFM crown with labial porcelain veneer is a reasonable alternative. Patient's evaluation, prosthetic design, tooth preparation and maintaining of oral hygiene are prerequisite for success.
