Dental caries on students at Chongqing in 2002 : China
Objectives: The purpose of this investigation is to find out the Dental caries status of Chongqing students of Kindergarten and school, which will be used as The base of data for Chongqing preliminary oral health care. Methods: We adopt the base method for oral health investigation of WHO(1997): firstly, select subjects from every section of Chongqing, then device them into four groups according to age: 6-year-old, 35- 12-year-old, 15-year-old,18-year- old. The examiner is professional dentist being trained. Results: Data of 11,592 students of Kindergarten and school were collected from 48 survey stations. The surrey results showed that the prevalence rate of dental carries among students of Kindergarten and school is 31.64%, DMFT(dmft) mean is 0.98, filled tooth rate is 6.74%. Caries rate and DMFT(dmft) mean of male is higher than female(P<0.01), town is higher than countryside(P<0.01). Conclusions: In conclusion, the incidence of Dental caries in this population is high, specially in town and female, comparatively. Dental caries epidemiology factors which might be affect oral health ware nutritional condition, geographical environment, dental care condition, oral health concept and behavior etc. We must put prevention policy at the first place. Throughout oral health education, oral health check regularly and establishing oral health monitor net and so on, all the problems mentioned above maybe solved well partly.
