Irradiation to Parotid Gland on the Parotid Flow Rate

Objective:To study the trending changes of minipig parotid salivary flow rate , blood routine examination and serum chemistry after irradiation (IR) damage to parotid gland. Method:Ten minipigs were divided into 2 groups. Unilaterial, single dose irradiation (15Gy) was delivered via a liner accelerator to one side of parotid glands of eight minipigs, blank control to two minipigs. Saliva collections were done in pro-IR, IR+4weeks, IR+8weeks, IR+16weeks. Blood was drawn at the same timepoints. Results:At 8 weeks post-IR, decrease parotid saliva flow rates was found in the irradiated side, there was significant difference between the flow rates of 16weeks post-IR and pro-IR (p£¼0.05=. At post-IR, WBC count decreased. There was significant difference of WBC count between at 8weeks, 16weeks post-IR and pro-IR. Compared with pro-IR, LDH of serum was significant decrease after irradiation. Conclusion:At 16weeks post-IR, saliva flow rate (15Gy) significantly decreased in irradiated parotid gland. Compared with pro-IR, at post-IR WBC count and LDH and AMY of serum significantly changed.
