Earlier Management of Impacted Supernumerary Teeth in Anterior Maxillary Area
Objectives: To analyze and summarize the possible injuries of permanent germs in removing the impacted supernumerary teeth earlier and to observe the conditions of malocclusion adjusted spontaneously after removing the impacted supernumerary teeth. Methods: 42 patients with 51 bony impacted supernumerary teeth were involved in this study. Based on the precise preoperative localization result, the impacted supernumerary teeth were removed. The patients were followed to observe the development of close permanent teeth germs and the conditions of malocclusion adjustment spontaneously. Results: Inverted palatally impacted supernumerary teeth were seen in 72.5% cases. Injury conditions of permanent teeth germs were classified and graded based on actual injury degree in operation. The patients were followed 1-3 years. The teeth color, the teeth morphology, the teeth mobility and pulp validity and so on in all cases are normal. The teeth length, the development of periapical aperture and the bone around root apex are also normal in radiographs. The conditions of malocclusion adjustment spontaneously:some permanent incisors have erupted spontaneously after removing the obstructed supernumerary teeth. The erupted rate was 77.8%. 78.6% cases had significant closure of incisors diastema. Conclusions: Removing the obstructed bony impacted supernumerary teeth earlier can let some malocclusions adjust spontaneously. The kind of surgery is safe and feasible under the conditions of precise localization before operation and careful management during operation.
