Oral health status and dental health care among Chinese PLA

Objectives:The aim of this study was to investigate dental diseases, to analysis epidemiology factors among the military persons in Chinese PLA. Methods:The WHO oral health survey basic methods was applied (1987) and according to practical condition, a questionnaire was designed. Results:Data of 23441 military persons (male 21000, female 2341) (the range of age 17-64) were collected from 42 sampling spots showed that the prevalence rate of dental carries was 36.9%, the mean DMFT was 0. 83 in the male, and 56.1% and 1.1 in the female. The prevalence rate of gingivitis is 59.2% for male and 43.2% for female. Dental calculus rate is 26.1% for male and 17.3% for female. Early periodontitis rate is 4.5% for male and 1.6% for female. Late periodontal disease rate is 0.6% for male and 0.2% for female. The early and late periodontitis was very low. The percentage of third impacted molars was 24% for male and 10.8% for female respectively. The percentage of toothbrushing for two times a day was 66.11% for male and 78.0% for female respectively. The needs of dental care was 43.7% for male and 79.0% for female.Conclusions: In Conclusion, the dental caries and periodontal disease are still keeping at the low levels and early stages. Therefore, oral health education, disease prevention and regularly checking up, and emergency care could be integrated into primary oral health care for the military persons.
