The Clinical Study of Local Application of Indomethacin in the Treatment for Periodontitis in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Objectives:Our research is to evaluate the efficacy of NSAIDs for periodontitis in type 2 diabetics. Methods:32 type 2 diabetics with modest to severe chronic periodontitis were recruited according to the selected requirment. A split-mouth design was utilized. Scaling and root planning and Indomethacin ( SRP+Ind ) was applyed randomly in one side. Scaling and root planning alone ( SRP ) was assigned in the other side . Clinical measurements included sulcus bleeding index( SBI ), probing depth( PD ) , attachment level( AL ). Gingival crevicular liquid prostaglandin E2 levels were analyzed by radio immunoassay ( RIA ). Parameters were measured at 0 week and 7,12 weeks after SRP. Results:By statistics analysis ,the tesults showed that the SRP+Ind group had more significant reduction in SBI, PD, AL compared with the SRP group (P<0.05) and the GCF- PGE2 levels decreased more significantly (P<0.05) in the SRP+Ind group after treatment. Mezolin is a kind of NSAIDs.It has powerful anti-inflammation effect and can inhibite epoxidase and lipoxidase at the same time. It has powful effect of inhibiton of PGE2 and accelerates collagen synthesis of fibroblast in perioligament.
