Comparing Study of Cyclic and Static Fatigue behavior of Dental Ceramics

±Abstract• Objective: Compare the difference of strength degradation of dental ceramics with different microstructure after static and cyclic fatigue . Methods:Hertzian contact technique with WC spheres was used to investigate the response of a feldspathic dental porcelain and a glass infiltrated ceramics to static and cyclic fatigue, all specimens were fatigued by static or cyclic loading in moist environment, then strength-tested. Results:Vita Mark II is more susceptible to static fatigue than glass infiltrated ceramic be. Indentation damage and associated strength degradation of two ceramics are more severely after cyclic loading than after static loading for the same time duration. Conclusion:Both static and cyclic fatigue influence dental ceramic strength, but cyclic fatigue is more deleterious. Microstructure is a key element of fatigue response of dental ceramics
