AIM:To assess the quality of obturation with cold or warm gutta-percha in oval canals. METHODS:Mandibular incisors with oval canals were radiographically selected and randomly divided into two groups. After instrumented with modified double-flare technique, canals were obturated with lateral compaction of cold GP and vertical compaction of warm GP respectively.Horizontal sections werecut 2mm,4mm,6mm,8mm from the apex. The quality of obturation was evaluted by the percentage of gutta-percha-filled canal area(PGP). RESULTS: The warm GP group presented significantly higher PGP than the cold GP group 4mm,6mm,8mm,except 2mm from the apex.CONCLUSION:As for the percentage of gutta-percha-filled canals area, warm GP was better than cold GP in oval canals.
