Basic Study of Denture Base Resin with Nano-silver Antibacterial Agent

Objectives: Denture base resin with antibacterial activity may prevent oral pathogens colonizing on it and keep dentures clean .The purpose of this study is to investigate the antibacterial activity and mechanical properties of denture base resin with nano-silver antibacterial agent (FUMAT T200-4) which have been verified antibacterial activity on oral pathogens in previous study . Methods: 2% FUMAT T200-4 was incorporated to denture base resin . The ability of resin containing FUMAT T200-4 inhibiting growth of Streptococcus mutans (ATCC 6715) and Candida albicans (ATCC76615) was assayed with pellicle-sticking method. Morever the transverse flection , flexural strength , Elastic modulus were measured . Results: The results showed that after culturing for 24 hours 75% Streptococcus mutans (ATCC 6715) and 49% Candida albicans (ATCC76615) were inhibited separately . And there was no significant difference between resin containing FUMAT T200-4 group and control group. Conclusions: These results indicate that incorporation of nano-silver antibacterial agent in denture base resin can inhibit oral pathogens colonizing on denture base and it had no significant influence on the mechanical properties of denture base resin.
