Characteristics of Cervicofacial Actinomycosis£ºClinical Data for 7 Cases

OBJECTIVE: To collect and analyze the data of cervicofacial actinomycosis and induce the new concept on diagnosis and treatment for it. METHODS: Surveyed in-patients in the stomatological department ever since 1961 and in the hospital since 1988, sorted with key words cervicofacial actinomycosis. RESULTS: Total 7 cases of cervicofacial actinomycosis were analyzed, at age 25.83±8.61, with male dominance. While early diagnosis was difficult the prognosis was excellent. CONCLUSIONS: It's very important for physicians to have knowledge on the characteristics of cervicofacal actinomycosis. Any teeth extraction followed by trismus without remarkable inflammation phenomenon should be doubted as this disease, early exploration for sulpha granule is worthwhile and at least 30-day application of penicillin is essential to cure it.
