A Simple Technique for Management of Dental Fear in Children

The oral maxillofacial surgeons try to control dental fear in outpatient children required oral operation to summon up the dental children patients and their parents to cooperate with clinicians during operation by applying the behavioural management (sciences). Objectives: the study is to introduce a simple practical technique for dental surgeon to manage the dental child patient with the dental fear in outpatient clinic of oral maxillofacial surgery and to improve the child's coping. Methods: The thirty dental patients aged 2 to 7 years, required oral minor painful procedures in the outpatient clinic, department of oral maxillofacial surgery, were informed of their physical illness as "Worm's work", the lesion as "Worm's House", resolution as playing game. Three variables for assessment to the technique: 1. the patient's performance: secure or insecure operative site/calm or noisy. 2. Operative continuity: no interruption or interruption. 3. The parent's satisfaction: 100mm Visual Analog Scale. Results: 28 out of 30 children (93.33%) were calm over the operation with secure operative sites but 2 (6.67%) noisy with secure operative sites; No interruption came to all cases; The scales of all parent's satisfaction were 100 mm; Conclusion: The results of study reveal that the technique seemed to be quite promisingly used in the outpatient clinic for dental fear management of the child patient required the oral minor invasive painful procedures.
