Clinical-Radiographic Evaluation of Implants with Two Different Collar Treatments

Objective: the aim of the present study is comparing the clinical and radiographic parameters of Laserlok® (test) to RBT® (control) dental implants restored with straight or angled abutments Biohorizons®, USA.

Method: In the present study  20 patients were enrolled and a total of 40 implants inserted. All the implants were placed with a not submerged, one stage surgical approach. Three months after the implant placement, a pick-up technique impression of the implant sites was made and the fixtures were restored with Laserlok® or fully machined  abutments. Clinical parameters (PD, mGI, mSBI) were collected before the impression procedure. All the implants inserted were conventionally loaded. The peri-implant status was assessed by PD, BOP, mPI and mGI at different steps. Standard periapical radiographs were taken on the baseline, on the implant placement, on the implant uncovering, and six months after the implant placement.

Result: All the peri-implant parameters were within the regular ranges and all the implant sites were healthy. The radiographic evaluation showed a minimal physiological bone remodeling. The bone resorption was inferior for Laserlok® collar treatment and abutment compared to RBT® ones.

Conclusion: Under the limits of this study the use of dental implants with laser configured microchannels on the collar  and abutment surface may help mantaining excellent  peri-implant hard and soft tissues  standards.
