Concurrent Focal Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia and Central Odontogenic Fibroma

Objective: Focal cemento-osseous dysplasia is a benign cemento-osseous lesion that occupies a portion of the spectrum between the periapical and florid cemento-osseous dysplasias.  The odontogenic fibroma has been described as a benign odontogenic tumor characterized by varying amount of odontogenic epitelium in mature fibrous stroma.  In this case report, it will be presented that  concurrent lesions of mandibular focal cemento-osseous dysplasia and maxillary odontogenic fibroma in a case of 26 years old woman.

Method: Both lesions were asymptomatic and expansive. Odontogenic fibroma was associated with the impacted permanent canine and persisted deciduous canine. Lesions were evaluated by panoramic, periapical radiographs and tomography.  Focal cemento-osseous dysplasia had a mix radiographic appearance. Radiographic image of odontogenic fibroma was well-defined, unilocular radiolucency associated with impacted canine.

Result: The tumors were treated by enuclation and curettage. Deciduous and impacted permanent canines were extracted. Root-canal treatment was applied to maxillary lateral incisor, maxillary first premolar, mandibular canine, mandibular first and second premolars.

Conclusion: Panoramic radiograph is an improtant tool in detection of asymptomatic lesions.
