Comparing Er,Cr:YSGG Laser And Conventional Method In Soft Tissue Surgery

Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the recovery periods of Er,Cr:YSGG laser surgery and conventional surgery on soft tissues.

Methods: This clinical study was conducted on a group of 30 patients with 44 lesions of epulis fissuratum caused by denture wearing. Patients were randomly divided into two groups so that the conventional group and the laser group. Conventional group’s interventions were performed under local anesthesia with standard surgery procedures. On the other hand, the scalpel dose of Er,Cr:YSGG laser (2780 nm, 2.75 Watt, 75 Hertz, air 20-water 40) was used in laser group. Postoperative controls were done at 2nd, 7th, 14th and 30th days. End of the assessments of pain (Visual Analogue Scale scores), edema (total wound surface), healing, erythema and suppuration, Mann Whitney U test and Wilcoxon test were employed for the statistical analysis.

Result: There were no statistically differences between the groups in all evaluation criteria. However, our clinical results and patients’ comfort favored the Er,Cr:YSGG laser method.

Conclusion: In terms of both the doctor and the patient, Er,Cr:YSGG laser provides great comfort in the postoperative period. In a study that will be made with more patients, statistical results support this opinion.
