Functional analyses based on 3D ultrasonic Technique

Increasingly the spectrum of used materials for fixed prosthesis changes in favour of full ceramic systems. We must consider the fact that new materials make often also different demands for the production of the workpiece or offer in some aspects a smaller error tolerance. Only a very accurate functional design of the occlusal surface already in the laboratory can minimise these problems. A precondition for this is that all individual movement parameters of the patient are known with sufficient accuracy and passed on to the dental technician. New electronic recording systems enable the dentist to collect all relevant information very precisely both in static and dynamic occlusion.

With the Digma2 system we can determine the position of the condyles and the incisal point at the same time during the recording of movements for calculating the articulator settings or the recording of positions for centric records. For this the Digma2 offers software modules for "Articulator adjustment" and four different modules for centric registration like "guided centric", "adduction field", "gothic arch tracing" and "lower jaw positioning". With these four modules we have the potential to determine the physiological centric position in a more reliable and precise manner than ever before.

For diagnostic examination of CMD we can find the modules "Movement Analysis" and "Electronic Position Analysis" (EPA). In focus of "Movement Analysis" is the recording of different jaw movements. These can be subsequently interpreted with the analysis tool of the Digma2 software. Here the jaw movements can be shown in different views like 2D-tracings of the condylar and incisal points in the three principal planes or an animated 3D-illustration of a skull. The EPA-test is of particular importance for the assessment of the physiological condyle position and to prepare a treatment plan for CMD-patients.
