Caries Management in children - non-operative treatment options
About 50% of 9-yr-old children in Denmark have restorations on the approximal surfaces of the deciduous molar teeth (Ekstrand, 2007), thus a great deal of the working hours of the professionals in daily practice is related to make restorations, root treatment and even extractions of primary molar teeth. A similar trend is seen in many other countries, which have dental care for children. Operative interventions are not at all a nice event for a child. The question is if management of caries in the primary dentition can be handled more appropriate or elegant seen from the point of view of the child and the tooth. Recently, new techniques as sealing in- (Martignon et al., 2008) or resin infiltrating approximal lesions on deciduous teeth (Bakhshandeh & Ekstrand, 2009) have been developed. The presentation will focus on differences between the two new techniques, indications for the techniques, and results obtained in two randomised split mouth studies
