Direct Restorations As Alternatives to Indirect Procedures

Abstract Body: Beside assumed better physical properties of indirect restorative materials (especially of ceramics), indirect instead of direct restorations are also chosen in case of demanding clinical situations. These might be situations coming up with a high amount of lost dental hard tissue or subgingival location of the cavity margins. These conditions might impair proper reconstruction of tooth morphology or sufficient handling of adhesive systems important for long-term success of direct composite restorations. Physical properties of indirect composite restorations are comparable at least to those restorations fabricated with indirectly used composite materials, so-called “high-performance composites” processed with CAD/CAM-procedures.
Thus, in some clinical situations the use of direct composite restorations only seems to be limited due to the complexity and problems with regard to their adequate placement.
The lecture will provide aspects and techniques, how to overcome those limits of direct restorations by applying step-by-step techniques adopted to the respective clinical situation.
