Hospital Odontology at the scope of undergraduate student

Objective:This study had the purpose to offer the undergraduate students from the Dentistry School from Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil the possibility to have an internship supervised by the professors from the Dentistry School from Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil and the preceptor physicians from the Hospital do Servidor Público Municipal de São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil through an agreement between these two institutions. Methods: The clinical theorical internship in Hospital Odontology (workload 500 h) selected five students from the last semester, who made an internship in 01 (one) module of Research and Teaching and 04 (four) modules of Medical Odontologic: Medical Practice, Infectious Diseases), Cardiology and Oncology. These ones include outpatients department accompaniment , ward, intern, surgery center, emergency department, theorical activities and clinical cases discussions from medical area.The evaluation was done at the end of every module in three levels: student's performance, study case presentation and patients' reports. Result:The results of the first module (Medical Practice, Infectious Diseases) revealed the attendance in the theorical activities, outpatients department, ward and intern from 15 HIV + patients, 11 diabetics, hypertensive, 04 cardipathics, and 03 epidermoidic carcinoma, 02 pneumonia, 1 mononucleosis, being performed odontodologic treatment together with medical aids. All of the patients qualified the aids as fast and excellent. At the same time, 04 (four) clinical intrials are being developed in medical odontology area. Conclusion:It is possibly to conclude that the academic project has potential to fulfil, with greatness, the Odontology undergraduation teaching and enlarge the scope of the student to the patient.
