Apical extrusion of debris and irrigants after root canal instrumentation
Introduce:The aim of the endodontic treatment is the completely cleansing of the root canal system. The material extruded from apical foramen may be related with postinstrumentation pain, edema, bone resorption and flare-up. Objectives:The purpose of this study was to evaluate amount of debris and irrigants volume, apically extruded, after endodontic instrumentation, using 3 different manual and one rotatory techniques. Methods:The techniques performed were crown-down, based into Oregon technique; step-back; crown-down with step-back, everything using K-file and balanced movement force, and the rotatory technique profile 0.4. Sixty extracted unirradicular human teeth, randomly selected were divided into 4 groups (N = 10). During tooth instrumentation extruded apical debris were collected in eppendorf flasks and after weight in an analitical balance. Irrigant volume extruded apically and dry weight of debris values were analised with non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test (5%) and Dunnxs method. Results:No significant difference was found in extruded irrigant volume. Related of debris, it was appointed a statistically significant diference between crown-down technique and when this was used in association with the step-back. Conclusions:It was concluded that during root canals instrumentation all techniques adopted were able to extrude irrigant and debris from apical foramen.
