Composite surface roughness submitted to different finishing and polishing systems
Objectives:This study aimed to analyze the surface roughness of three types of compound resins submitted to three different finishing and polishing systems. Methods:Ninety-six acrylic matrixes were filled with microhybrid compound resins - Filtek Z250/ 3M (Z250) - , microparticles - Durafill/ Kulzer (DUR) or nanoparticles - Filtek Supreme/ 3M (SUP), being photopolymerized by halogen light Optlight Plus/ Gnatus through a polyester strip for the time recommended by the manufacturers. The resins were randomly submitted to finishing and polishing systems (n=8), using finishing tip for ultrasound CVD CVDentUS (CVD) -, diamond tip 2135 FF KG Sorensen (PD) or ultra fine aluminum oxide disk sandpaper - Sof-Lex/ 3M (DL). The control group (n=8) was not submitted to any type of finishing or polishing (CON). The test specimens were stored at relative humidity for 7 days and analyzed in a Surf-Corder SE 1700 roughness meter, using the parameter Ra and cut-off of 0.08mm. Results:ANOVA and the Tukey test showed that there was no difference between the different types of resin (p=0.719) and the interaction was not significant (p=0.417). There was significant difference among the different finishing and polishing systems (p<0.001), with greater roughness for the CVD tip: CON=DL
