Influence of processing on shear bond strength of feldspathic porcelain
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of one dual resin cement (Rely-X, 3M, ESPE) to one all-ceramic material Ceramco 2, which was processed by sintering (following the manufacturer's instructions) and injection (experimental technique). Methods: Samples of the ceramic (n=26) were individually embedded in autopolymerizing acrylic resin JET (Artigos Odontológicos Clássico) and polished with silicon carbide papers in Metaserv Grinder/Polisher (Buehler) machine. Composite cylinders of 4.0 mm diameter of Z-100 composite resin (3M-ESPE) were bonded to treated surfaces of the ceramic with the resin luting cement according to manufacturer's directions. Before the test, the specimens were stored in distilled water at 37ºC for 24 hours. Shear bond strength test was performed using a Universal Testing Machine MTS 810 at a cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min with a 10-kN load cell. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney test (a=.05). Results: According to results, there was no statistical difference (P>.05) between shear bond strength values obtained for Ceramco 2 processed by sintering (16.30 MPa ± 5.08 MPa) and injection (16.20 ± 3.76 MPa). Conclusions: The experimental technique of processing did not influence the shear bond strength of Ceramco 2 with resin luting cement Rely-X.
