Correlation between radiographic and histopathological diagnosis of odontogenic lesions
Objectives: The aim of this study is research the correlation between the clinical/radiological and histopathological diagnosis of odontogenic tumor (ameloblastoma) and odontogenic cysts. Methods: Were compiled informations based on the evaluation of information gathered from medical files and xray films from Cirurgia IV and Patologia Oral Departments of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), among 3 examinators. Results: Was observed high sensitivity and low specificity for clinical diagnosis (Kappa > 0,550), being the radicular cyst and dental follicle the conditions with major especificity (>0,74) on clinical diagnosis, and dentigerous cyst and ameloblastoma responsible for the biggest negative predictive values (>0,78). Conclusions: We conclude that histopathological examination is necessary in all treated cases, and the importance of continued education in dental radiology and oral pathology.R
