Dimensional alteration of irreversible hydrocolloid submitted to different disinfection methods
Objectives: The objective of this work went verify to influence of different disinfection methods in the linear dimensional stability of 3 commercial marks of irreversible hydrocolloid: Exact Chrome, Hydrogum and Jeltrate. Methods:It was constructed, a inoxidizable steel cast-master, with three pillars (A, B and C) with similar prepares of total crown and perforated individual tray. Apparel was used with control of relative humidity and temperature of 37°C, trying to simulate the conditions of the buccal cavity. Of each material, they were obtained 25 molds, being 5 for each one of the following groups: 1) control/without disinfection; 2) spray with solution of sodium hypochlorite at 1%; 3) spray with glutaraldehyde solution at 2%; 4) immersion in solution of sodium hypochlorite at 1% during 10 minutes; 5) immersion in glutaraldehyde solution at 2% during 10 minutes. The molds of the groups 2 and 3 were stored in box humectant during 10 minutes. After the obtaining of the casts in plaster stone special type IV Durone, the measures of the distances between the pillars were accomplished, by means of positioning of the digital caliper rule Mitutoyo in the marks disposed in the central portions of the oclusal surfaces of the pillars. Results: With the results it can be verified that measured AB, and AC didn't present significant differences for all the groups. In the case of the measure BC variability was verified among the tested groups. Conclusions: Inside of the conditions established in the experiment, there were not enough evidences that the tested disinfection processes are the responsible persons for lineal dimensional alterations.
