Cervical Microleakage of Teeth with Posts Cemented with Different Cements
Objectives:This study evaluated cervical microleakage of teeth with metallic posts cemented with zinc phosphate or dual resin cement. Methods: Twenty-four maxillary human canines were sectioned at the cemento-enamel junction and the root canals were treated. The prosthetic space was obtained with low-speed rotation and modeling was performed with the direct acrylic resin technique. After casting, the teeth were randomly distributed into two groups: in group I the metallic posts were cemented with zinc phosphate cement and in group II with Panavia F. After specimen immersion in India ink for 30 days, the teeth were decalcified in 5% chloric acid, dehydrated in ascending alcohol and cleared methyl salicilate. Results:The specimens were then evaluated microscopically to verify microleakage. Results were submitted to statistical analyses (Mann-Whitney) and showed a significant statistical difference between the groups (p<0.01). Conclusion: Therefore, we can conclude that the type of cement used for the cementing of metallic posts influences cervical microleakage, and the group cemented with zinc phosphate presented a lower level of microleakage when compared to Panavia F.
