Evaluation of incisors in relation to the facial pattern

Objectives: The goal of this study was to conduct a cephalometric evaluation of the inclinations of maxillary and mandibular incisors and correlate them with the facial pattern. Methods: The sample comprised 45 white subjects with Angle Class II division 1 malocclusion, aged 7.8 to 15 years. Cephalometric analysis of the lateral cephalograms as to the FMA and SN.GoGn measurements and the Index led to achievement of three groups according to the facial pattern. Thereafter, the inclinations of maxillary and mandibular incisors were analyzed by the cephalometric measurements 1.NA, 1.NB, IMPA and 1.1. Results: The results of analysis of variance indicated that only the IMPA variable presented a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) in relation to the facial pattern. The Tukey test revealed that this difference in the IMPA variable occurs between the three groups of facial pattern. Conclusions: it was not possible to correlate the inclinations of maxillary incisors (1.NA), mandibular incisors (1.NB) and interincisal angle (1.1) with the facial pattern, and there was a statistically significant difference between groups as to the inclination of mandibular incisors, as indicated by the IMPA measurement; this teeth were more proclined in individuals with brachyfacial pattern and more upright in dolichofacial subjects.
