Analysis of Vertical Alterations Patients with Open Bite Treated Thurow

Objectives: The objective of the present work has been to analyze through initial and final lateral teleradiographies, vertical alterations established by the use of the Thurow modified splint in the treatment of the anterior open bite.

Methods:15 patients with anterior open bite that were in a growth surge have been selected. The means obtained at the beginning and at the end of the treatment for all of the evaluated parameters have been statistically compared by the Student t test, at the significance level of 5% and no statistically significant differences have been found among them.

Results:This indicates that the means of the results obtained in the beginning and at the end of the treatment, for all the evaluated parameters, are statistically equivalent.

Conclusions:Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Thurow splint has been sufficient to control the vertical displacement of the facial bones, once the values of the measures used have been kept.
