Evaluation of Use of Biosecurity Equipment for the Dentistry Academics

Objectives: This research had the objective to evaluate and to motivate the pupils from 5th to 9th periods of the dentistry graduation course of Centro Universitário do Triângulo – Uberlândia – MG, about the use of equipments of individual protection (EPI), as well as introducing the education about biosecurity to the pupils of 1st period. Methods: For such these pupils, after previous training, had been carried through the collection of data during the clinical attendance to the patients in the intership supervised in the dentistry clinics at two moments: the 2nd semester of 2003 and the 1st semester of 2004. In each visual inspectionvisit, the data had been registered in standardized fiches contend the following information: use of EPI for the pupils operator and assistant, as well as applications of measures of protection in the patients. Results: After the data analysis, it was evidenced: a)That in the beginning of the semesters the pupils use just a little of the measures of biosecurity; b)In elapsing of the visits the same one had become more conscientious of the importance of use of EPI; c)And of 349 carried through interview it was identified that 6% of the total, in all aspects, did not respect the adoption of protection equipment in their patients, mainly the protection eyeglasses. Conclusions: This study shows that the pupils from 5th to 9th periods need constant accompaniment and awareness front the aplication of measures of biosecurity. Meanwhile the pupils of 1st period had become more motivated in relation of the dentistry, and the same ones had the chance to participate inside of the routine of the attendance in the dentistry clinics in the correct principles of biosecurity.
