Composites: Comparison of Compressive Strength

Objectives: The aim of this study was compare the compressive strength of five composites (Z250 (G1) and Supreme (G2) (3M ESPE, USA); IntenS (G3) and Tetric Ceram (G4) (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liech); and Concept (G5) (Vigodent, BR). Methods: Ten samples were made for each trademark using a Tefflon mould with 3mm diameter and 6mm height. The composites were inserted in an incremental way and polymerized for 40 seconds with the light curing machine (XL – 1500). The intensity of the light was controled by radiometer (450 +/- 20 mW/cm2). After that, these were kept in a stove for 24 hours under 37°C in order to complete the cure. The samples were tested in the universal machine with 0,5mm/min cross-head speed until the fracture. The results were obtained in megapascal (MPa). Data were submitted to statistical analysis with ANOVA and Tukey. Results: The medium values were: G1 (222,33a), G3 (150,81b), G4 (143,76b), G2 (72,30c) and G5 Concept (112,84c). Conclusion: Based on the results, there were differences between the composite resins tested. The composite G1 showed the highest medium, followed by the composites G3 and G4 and, with lower values, G2 and G5 (p<0,05).
