Intercanina distance and the identification of bite marks human
Objectives:This work had as objective to evaluate if significant difference exists in the intercanine distance, referred in the tips of cuspids of the canines and the biggest distance that involves the canines, referred in the vestibular camber aspect present in the surfaces initial of these teeth. Methods:The sample of this work was composed for 50 stone models pairs of students of Odontologic, by means of free and clarified assent. With the digital caliper use, had been measurements the intercanines distances and the biggest distances that involve the canines, which had been compared through statistical test "T" of Student. Results:The difference found between the distances measurements got, in the superior models, average of 4,35mm, maxim of 6,72mm and minim of 2,31mm. For the inferior models, the average was of 5,08mm, the maxim 6,98mm and the minim 3,32mm. Conclusions:After evaluation of the data, was concluded that significant difference (p < 0.001) between the studied distances exists, having the expert to be intent to the type of food that contains the dental impression. In soft food cases, where the complete or partial penetration of the dental units occurs, the measurements will have to be based on the biggest distance that involves the canines; in case that contrary, the identification of the criminal could be compromised.
