Microleakage in Cavities Prepared with CVDentUS® and Conventional Diamonds Burs
Some factors contribute to restoration microleakage, being cavity preparation one of the most important. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate marginal microleakage in bovine tooth enamel margin cavities prepared by CVDentUS® tips and conventional diamonds burs. Methods: 30 teeth were divided in two groups. Conventional diamond bur associated with air turbine and CVDentUS® tip with ultrasound were used for cavities preparation which measurements were 1 mm depth. Cavities were restored with sealant Fluroshield® (Dentsply) according to manufacturerxs instructions. After being isolated with Araldite® and cosmetic enamel, teeth were thermocycled in water 5°C± 2°C and 55°C± 2°C, totalizing 500 cycles. Teeth were immersed in a 0.5% basic fucsin, sectioned and sandpapered manually until approximately 0,25 mm thickness, mounted in blades and identified. Microleakage evaluation was observed under an optical microscope connected to a color digital camera and a computer. The images obtained were digitalized and analyzed with a software AxioVision which measured the microleakage in millimeters. Results: Statistical analysis under Mann-Whitney test showed no statistically significant differences in marginal microleakage (p > 0,05). It was observed a high amount of microleakage in both groups. Conclusion: Cavity preparation with CVDentUS® tip and conventional diamond bur didnxt influence the management of marginal microleakage in bovine tooth enamel.
