Enamel microtensile bond strength obtained with halogen light and LED

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the enamel bond strength of composite resin associated with multi bottle adhesive system and self etching primer, polymerized by halogen light and LED, submitted to microtensile test. Materials and Methods: Bovine teeth were divided into 4 groups with 10 teeth each one (n=10), then the adhesives Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus and Clearfil SE Bond were applied following manufacture's instructions, both polymerized for 10s by halogen light Degulux Soft Start with 550mW/cm2 and LED Kerr Demetron with 600mW/cm2. The composite resin Filtek Z-250 was polymerized for 40s by both light sources for 40s. The bond strength values were obtained by microtensile test. Results: The Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus polymerized by halogen light (39,69 ± 5,71) had the higher bond strength and the other groups did not had statistically different bond strength values: Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus polymerized by LED (22,28 ± 5,71), Clearfil SE Bond polymerized by halogen light (27,82 ± 5,71) and by LED (22,89 ± 5,71). Conclusions: Considering the multi bottle adhesive system Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus, the polymerization with halogen light resulted in higher bond strengtvalues than the ones obtained with polymerization with LED. Considering the self-etching primer Clearfil SE Bond, there were no statistically differences between polymerization with halogen light or with LED. There were no statistically differences between adhesive Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus polymerized with LED and the adhesive Clearfil SE Bond polymerized with halogen light or with LED. The multi bottle adhesive system had better bond strength values than the self-etching primer.
